Wine description
"We immerse ourselves in the art de vivre and the gentle Mediterranean way of life in this magical place that bridges gastronomy, history, the culture of our region and art in all its forms." Château l'Hospitalet is nestled in the heart of the protected massif of La Clape, a former link in the Pyrenean chain, a Phoenician and then Roman island, and the cradle of the vine in France. As early as the 13th century, the Hospices de Narbonne settled on La Clape, which has been connected to the mainland by the alluvial deposits of the Aude since the end of the Middle Ages. Documents from 1561 attest to its mission of welcome and sharing for pilgrims. This vocation of hospitality inspired Gérard Bertrand, who made l'Hospitalet the beating heart of his endeavours around the Mediterranean art de vivre, ever since he acquired the estate in 2002. The Château today boasts a 5-star hotel, a gastronomic restaurant, a tasting and sales cellar, an Art Space and a rich offering of sensory journeys around wine. Music was the missing element: in 2004, the château hosted the first "Jazz à l'Hospitalet" festival, which has since become an international reference. La Clape has retained its limestone soils from its Pyrenean héritage. L'Hospitalet benefits from one of the sunniest climates in France, and the radiance of the sun gives the wines a unique luminous balance. Biodynamic farming allows the full expression of this resonance of the environment and the terroir, between the richness of the fruit and the tension of the structure. The wines display a freshness and a salinity characteristic of limestone terroirs.

Winemaking and ageing
Given careful attention, the vineyard is pruned using the Cordon de Royat method to limit yields, and the vines are trained on trellises to optimise the exposure of the foliage and grape clusters to the sun, thus promoting uniform ripening. Each grape variety is harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and transported to the winery in harvest bins. The juice is immediately extracted by low-pressure pneumatic pressing of whole clusters. After cold settling for 48 hours, fermentation begins and the juice from each grape variety is placed separately into new barrels. Barrel ageing lasts 7 to 8 months until the spring equinox, with regular lees stirring. After a light fining, the wine is bottled unfiltered.
Tasting note
Château l'Hospitalet La Réserve blanc has a beautiful golden robe with green highlights. Woody scents of vanilla and mocha, accompanied by notes of citrus, apricot and peach, mingle on the nose and evolve towards honeyed notes. The breadth, power and roundness on the palate are balanced by a great freshness and a real aromatic complexity composed of anise, mint, essence of garrigue, toast and citrus, evolving towards honeyed notes. Elegant and well-balanced, this full-of-character cuvée has a beautiful length on the palate.
