In the Corbières, the terroir is as rugged as the hills are rounded, exposed to the winds and an arid climate. At the heart of the Boutenac cru, the Villemajou terroir is distinguished by a soil of rounded pebbles, blocks of limestone carried and polished by glacial waterways from the Pyrenees, on a base of clay and sandstone. This unique and homogeneous soil is home to century-old Carignan vines, the emblematic grape variety of the Boutenac cru. The gobelet training allows them to reach this respectable age, driving their roots deep in search of water and strength against the wind. They then produce grapes of unrivalled concentration and balance. At Villemajou, as nowhere else, Mediterranean blends give full measure of their generosity and elegance, in both red and white. In red, the Carignan is distinguished by the harmony that is its signature, between the softness of the tannins, the freshness of the mouthfeel and the power of the concentrated matter of old-vine juices. Alongside it, the old Grenache vines, the Syrah and more recently the Mourvèdre, reinforce the complexity of the blend, the keystone of the Grand Vin and its unique character. Each grape variety and each plot are vinified separately then blended in January. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for twelve months, and after bottling it rests for several months in our cellars before being shared with our customers.
