Our white wines
Gérard Bertrand white wines come from Languedoc and the South of France: Picpoul de Pinet around the Étang de Thau, La Clape, Corbières, Languedoc and Limoux. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Rolle (Vermentino), Clairette, Viognier, Piquepoul and Chardonnay make up this range, with many wines certified organic under the AB label and some also Demeter-certified.
From the citrus freshness of Héritage Year 1618 Picpoul de Pinet to the richness of Cigalus, partly aged in barrels, each wine expresses a terroir: Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc and Rolle in Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin White from AOP La Clape, Chardonnay in Aigle Royal from AOP Limoux, and Clairette in Héritage Year 77. Your questions about our white wines
Several of the House’s white wines hold both AB organic and Demeter biodynamic certification: Cigalus, Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin Blanc (AOP La Clape), Château La Sauvageonne Grand Vin (AOP Languedoc), Château de Villemajou Grand Vin (AOP Corbières) and Aigle Royal Chardonnay (AOP Limoux). Other wines, such as La Grande Bleue, are AB-certified. Each wine’s certifications are listed on its product page.
The House’s white wines are based on Mediterranean grape varieties: Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Rolle (Vermentino), Bourboulenc, Clairette and Piquepoul blanc, alongside Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Some wines are made from a single variety, such as Héritage An 1618 (Piquepoul blanc) or Aigle Royal (Chardonnay); others are blends, such as La Grande Bleue, which brings together five varieties.
The temperature depends on the style of the wine. The House’s product pages recommend 8 to 10 °C for the lively, citrusy Héritage An 1618 Picpoul de Pinet, 10 to 12 °C for Cigalus or Vents & Garrigue, and 11 °C for Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin Blanc or Hérésie Blanc. Serving wine too cold mutes its aromas, so it is best to take the bottle out of the fridge a few minutes before serving.
The product page for Héritage An 1618 Picpoul de Pinet suggests it as a natural pairing for shellfish; La Grande Bleue goes well with seafood and grilled fish. For pan-seared scallops or fish in sauce, the product pages recommend Cigalus, Château l'Hospitalet Grand Vin Blanc or Château de Villemajou Grand Vin. Château La Sauvageonne Grand Vin pairs with grilled fish and shellfish.
Cigalus (IGP Pays d'Oc) blends Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. AB- and Demeter-certified, 70% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 7 to 8 months, giving it a full, silky palate. AB-certified La Grande Bleue (IGP Méditerranée) brings together Rolle, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks without any barrel ageing, it has a lively profile and a saline finish.
