Orange Wine: History and Future
Orange wine: back to origins, let us discover it
You may have already heard of orange wine… A wine completely distinct from the other traditional types of wine, namely red wine, white wine and rosé wine.
Orange wine, also known as "macerated white wine", is one of the oldest types of wine. Indeed, orange wine was already being produced in antiquity.
The winemaking method for an orange wine consists of producing a wine from white grapes, while using the winemaking methods of a red wine.
This hybrid approach allows orange wines to offer atypical flavours, entirely new for lovers of classic wines.
Tannic like a red wine, with the freshness of a white wine, its unique taste leaves no one indifferent.
Fruity, bitter, acidic… its flavours are of an astonishing complexity.
Just as pleasant to enjoy as an aperitif as throughout the meal, orange wines fully deserve the interest and enthusiasm they generate.

Where can orange wines be found in France?
Although orange wines have recently come back into fashion, the choice is still limited and we are still far from the range available for red wines, white wines or rosé wines.
That said, certain cuvées stand out from the crowd and brilliantly highlight the natural qualities of a macerated white wine, while offering a character unique to its terroir.
So, how does one choose to find the best French orange wine ?
Languedoc-Roussillon, the Jura and Alsace are among the regions home to excellent wine estates producing a good quality orange wine .
For the Languedoc-Roussillon region, let us highlight the Orange Gold cuvée from the Gérard Bertrand estates, a delicate orange wine with a golden hue showcasing the terroir of the South of France.
