Wine description

Located in the heart of Languedoc in the South of France, Clos du Temple is born on the historic terroir of Cabrières, the cradle of rosé wines.
The terroir owes its uniqueness to its geological origins.
The contact between schist, limestone and the hilly terrain has given rise to a complex network of underground water circulation, promoting exceptional natural water supply to the vineyard and the emergence of a source of exceptionally pure water.
Its altitude of 150 metres, combined with its south to south-west exposure, contributes to the creation of a perfectly balanced wine with great aromatic freshness. At Clos du Temple, we have chosen to cultivate the vines biodynamically and to use horses and mules in order to foster the connection between mineral, plant, animal and human life.

Clos du Temple was named the world's best rosé wine four times by Drinks Business.

Le Clos du Temple should be served and enjoyed at

Winemaking and ageing

The unique blend of 4 red grape varieties (GRENACHE, CINSAULT, SYRAH, MOURVÈDRE) and one white grape variety (VIOGNIER) gives this rosé all its singularity. A perfect, full balance with great length, carried by a lovely freshness. As the winery is located in the heart of the vineyard, transport time is minimal. The finest free-run juices are then selected. Cold pressing (5°C) preserves the aromas and freshness and prevents the juice from colouring by locking in the natural pigments (anthocyanins). Before low-temperature fermentation, cold settling is carried out for 24 hours at a controlled temperature between 8 and 10°C without the addition of sulphur. Ageing takes place in new French oak barrels (oak from the Tronçais and Jupilles forests) for 6 to 8 months on fine lees with bâtonnage. The wines are blended on a fruit day, according to the biodynamic astral calendar, which is favourable for tasting

Tasting note

Clos du Temple is a very pale and sparkling rosé. Its nose reveals notes of ripe fruits (apricot, white peach), floral notes of rose and spiced aromas of green pepper. On the palate, the same scents are found, complemented by a delicate finish of blond tobacco. This wine is capable of ageing for many years.

Which dishes should I pair with this wine?

Each product page provides a food and wine pairing suggestion suited to the cuvée. Our online tasting assistant can also advise you based on your menu.

How long can I keep this wine?

The ageing potential depends on the cuvée and vintage — it is specified in this wine's technical sheet. In general, our wines for ageing and fine wines can be kept for more than 10 years, or even over 100 years for our fortified sweet wines, whilst our lighter cuvées, intended to be enjoyed young, are best appreciated within 2 to 3 years of purchase.

What is the alcohol content of this wine?

The alcohol content (% vol.) varies by cuvée and vintage; it is listed in the product’s technical data sheet, below the description.

Is this wine dry or sweet? What is its residual sugar content?

The majority of our red, white and rosé wines are dry. Our natural sweet wines (Rivesaltes, Maury...) and certain crémants are sweet or semi-dry. The style (dry/sweet) of this cuvée is specified in its description.

Which grape varieties make up this wine, and which terroir does it come from?

Does this wine contain sulphites?

Is this wine vegan?

Many Gérard Bertrand cuvées are vegan certified (100% plant-based fining agents, no products of animal origin). This wine’s vegan status is indicated in its certifications on the product page.

Should this wine be decanted before tasting?

This depends on the wine and its age, as specified on the technical data sheet where relevant. As a general rule, our powerful age-worthy wines benefit from being decanted 30 minutes to 1 hour before tasting; lighter wines, whites and rosés can be served directly.

Is this wine available in a gift box?
