Saga des cépages - Cinsault

Grape variety saga - cinsault

Cinsault is a grape variety from the Rhône Valley and Languedoc-Roussillon primarily. These regions provide an ideal terroir for this variety, which is fairly resistant to drought. A high-yielding producer, it needs to be established on dry, stony hillsides with good sun exposure.

It is recognisable by its clusters of large round berries with juicy flesh and a bluish-black skin.

It is the essence of Mediterranean rosés — light and fruity. It is known for producing fine and elegant rosés, with aromas of Grenache, red fruits, peach and white flowers, with a lovely balance between freshness and roundness. It also appears in the red wines of Minervois, Corbières, etc. Often blended with Grenache and Carignan, it produces wines with supple tannins.

Cinsault is part of the grape blend of many of our estates, including that of the Château l'Hospitalet and the Château la Sauvageonne.
