On returning from conquests in 1189, three knights — Guiral, Alban and Loup — who were in love with Princess Bertrade, upon learning of her disappearance, decided to become hermits, each on a mountain, and to light a fire every year to honour the beloved. The peak was thus named Pic Saint Loup.
