L'hospitalitas 2019, aop la clape receives the trophy for best red wine in the world
The Japan Wine Challenge, the oldest wine competition in Japan and Asia, is also considered one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. Each year, the panel of experts singles out the wines and winemakers that define the vintage. Gérard Bertrand received the trophy for "Best Red Wine 2021" for the 2019 cuvée of L'Hospitalitas, AOP La Clape.
The Japan Wine Challenge revealed its 2021 results. Following a series of highly rigorous blind tastings of several thousand samples from around the world, it is the cuvée L'Hospitalitas 2019, AOP La Clape, that stands out, receiving the Trophy for Best Red Wine 2021, as well as the Platinum award.
This distinction rewards the meticulous work carried out in the vineyard and in the cellar of Château l'Hospitalet. The estate, cultivated using biodynamics, is surrounded by a flourishing garrigue, where truffle oaks, mulberry trees and olive trees form savoury ramparts at the edge of the vines. This terroir gives the wines a spicy and fruity aromatic profile. This iconic cuvée of the estate — L'Hospitalitas, a parcel selection — is a blend dominated by Syrah (68%) and 32% Mourvèdre. This cuvée was produced for the first time in 2002. The plot is located in a sheltered setting, facing the Mediterranean.
