Biodynamics according to gérard bertrand
Renaissance of the vine
Spring heralds renewal in the vineyards. The vegetative phase begins, the first vine tears flow and bud break marks the very first moments of a new vintage. It is also the time of year when our winemakers — both women and men — are on the alert in the vineyards.
In biodynamics, observation, analysis and decision-making are essential to the life of a vineyard. Protecting living things: after a winter covered in grass, our soils receive their first care, guided by biodynamics, where 300 people work daily to reveal the great wines of the region. Committed to preserving the environment, the Gérard Bertrand vineyards receive particular attention, between ploughing and treatments based on herbal infusions.
Over the years, the soil — home to more living species than anywhere else on earth — will gain in fertility. There are approximately 47,000 links between micro-organisms and bacteria in biodynamic soils. The biodynamic preparations used will increase the microbial life of the humus and boost the natural defences of our vines. Biodynamics for great wines.
From these preserved terroirs come great wines that meet the specifications of biodynamics (certification Demeter). Produced through fermentation without the aid of chemical yeasts and vinified with sulphite levels far lower than in organic winemaking, they bear witness to a vineyard in excellent health. A preserved environment and magnified wines demonstrate the relevance of this approach.
