Gérard Bertrand, a former professional rugby player, took up the torch of the family winegrowing tradition in 1987. Since then, he has transformed the estate into a symbol of winemaking excellence and diversity. Gérard Bertrand's vineyards stretch over several appellations prestigious Languedoc-Roussillon, a region known for its favorable climatic conditions and varied soils, which contribute to the production of high-quality wines.

Gérard Bertrand offers a wide range of sweet wines, each expressing the richness and diversity of the Languedoc-Roussillon terroir. Among the most emblematic are Muscat, Maury and Banyuls. 

Muscat

The Muscat de Gérard Bertrand is a Fortified Wine, made from Muscat à Petits Grains grapes. This wine is distinguished by its intense aromas of exotic fruit, white flowers and citrus. On the palate, it offers a lovely freshness balanced by a gentle sweetness. Perfect as an aperitif, it also goes wonderfully well with fruity desserts and blue-veined cheeses.

Le Maury

Le Maury Gérard Bertrand

Le Maury is another Fortified Wine that is the pride of Gérard Bertrand. This red wine, produced in the Maury appellation, is characterized by aromas of candied black fruit, cocoa and spices. On the palate, it is rich and generous, with good length and a finish of dried fruit notes. Ideal with chocolate, red fruit desserts and game dishes.

Le Banyuls

Le Banyuls de Gérard Bertrand is a Fortified Wine produced in the Banyuls appellation. This wine, made mainly from the following grape varieties GrenacheIt is renowned for its aromatic complexity, with notes of prunes, figs, coffee and nuts. On the palate, it is unctuous and offers a fine tannic structure. Perfect with chocolate desserts, dried fruit pastries and mature cheeses. 

Rivesaltes

Rivesaltes Gérard Bertrand

Le Rivesaltes is another prestigious Fortified Wine from Gérard Bertrand. Originating in the Rivesaltes appellation, this wine is made mainly from Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeu grapes. This wine is distinguished by its aromatic complexity, blending notes of dried fruit, honey, figs and walnuts. On the palate, it is rich and velvety, with good roundness and a long, harmonious finish.Gérard Bertrand's Rivesaltes is an exceptional wine for laying down, which improves with age. It is the perfect accompaniment to dried fruit desserts, oriental pastries or simply to be enjoyed on its own, at the end of a meal, for a refined and unforgettable taste experience.

The secrets of making Gérard Bertrand sweet wines

The production of sweet wines Gérard Bertrand sweet wines is based on ancestral know-how and meticulous attention to each stage of production. Hand-picking grapes when fully ripe is a crucial step in ensuring optimum concentration of aromas and sugars. Fermentation is then interrupted by mutage, a technique that consists of adding alcohol to stop fermentation, thus preserving the grapes' natural sugars.   

Ageing is another key stage that gives Gérard Bertrand sweet wines their complexity and depth. Some wines, like Banyuls, are aged in oak barrels for several years, allowing the aromas to develop and harmonize.
