In 1920, Paule Bertrand planted the family's first vines in the Corbières. Carignans that are now a valiant hundred years old.
In 1975, Georges Bertrand introduced his son Gérard, then aged ten, to harvesting at Château de Villemajou in the Corbières region. Georges Bertrand played a pioneering role in the revelation of Languedoc terroirs, and was instrumental in the recognition of the Boutenac cru.
Gérard Bertrand has been sharing his passion for wine and his convictions with his father's pioneering spirit for over 30 years.
A fourth generation is on the way. Gérard Bertrand's rare talent for assembly is shared with his team. A unique know-how, passed on and cultivated with his wife Ingrid, and his two children, Emma and Mathias.
Gérard Bertrand and his teams are convinced that viticulture in harmony with nature is the best way to bring terroir wines to the highest level of excellence. This method of viticulture produces wines that reflect all the nuances of the terroirs of the South of France.
Biodynamic agriculture is similar to homeopathy for vines. It involves the use of compost and biodynamic plant teas. Biodynamics takes into account all the natural elements that surround the vine and is based on cosmic rhythms.
Domaine de Cigalus began its conversion to biodynamic agriculture in 2002. Today, all the vineyards are cultivated biodynamically in compliance with DEMETER specifications. By 2023, all Domaine Cigalus vineyards will have completed their conversion to certification, to the benefit of nature, viticultural teams and wine consumers alike.
