Vin bio rosé du Languedoc: A pleasant, elegant rosé wine from organic farming

Languedoc organic rosé wine

The flagship drink of summer and vacation, rosé wine is booming. This fine, delicate wine, with its fruity aromas and floral scents, goes well with all kinds of dishes. This light spirit is particularly appreciated as an aperitif, thanks to its natural acidity and freshness.

Gérard Bertrand, a talented winemaker and entrepreneur, understood early on the importance of producing top-quality rosé wines. His well-balanced, mineral and nuanced wines are a real success. What's more, his deep attachment to nature soon led him to design organic and biodynamic winesmuch more environmentally friendly than traditional wines.

Gérard Bertrand's organic rosé wines are the result of special expertise in the design of premium wines: from the gentle cultivation of vines (organic and biodynamic viticulture) to the transformation of grape juice into wine (vinification).

Let's go into more detail by answering a few commonly asked questions:

What is an organic rosé wine?

Origin and definition of rosé wine

Rosé prima nature

Contrary to what you might think, compared to white and red wine, rosé is surely the oldest type of wine. In fact, it was consumed as far back as Ancient Greece. Preferred to red wine, which was difficult to drink at the time because it was far too tannic, rosé was the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. Although there is no official definition, a rosé wine can be defined as a wine made from black grapes with white flesh, such as Grenache, a typically southern grape variety commonly grown in the vineyards of the Occitanie region.

An organic rosé is a wine produced according to the principles of organic farming. This is particularly true of the cuvée Source of Joyan organic rosé wine from Languedoc with AB and Vegan labels.

Just like vins biodynamics, the organic wines received no chemical products during their conception, either to combat possible vine diseases (pesticides), or to promote their development (fertilizers). What's more, all the additives used to transform grape juice into wine (the inputs) are also certified organic.

An organic vineyard is produced on quality soil

The use of natural products also obliges the winegrower to meticulously choose the location of his vineyard. In fact, with no synthetic products to "dope" the vines whatever the conditions, as is the case in traditional agriculture, the winegrower is obliged to choose a site suited to growing grapes.

The soil of an organic or biodynamic vineyard must be rich and conducive to vine development. This is particularly true for the domaine de Villemajouan exceptional AOP Corbières vineyard producing top-quality red, white and rosé wines, certified "AB" organic and "Demeter" biodynamic.

An organic rosé wine comes from a vineyard that has been respected, growing on healthy soil untouched by pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.

Organic wine contains less sulfites

One of the special features of organic wines is that they contain far less sulfites than traditional wines. Although this substance is naturally present in wine. Adding sulfite facilitates the winemaking process. However, too high a dose can cause headaches, digestive problems, etc. in some people.

Little or no sulfites are added during the production of an organic wine, which is then referred to as a "no sulfites added" wine, as is the case for Gérard Bertrand Prima Nature rosé. Gérard Bertrand Prima Nature rosé wine. The sulfites contained in this bottle are only those naturally present in the wine.

Thanks to its low sulfur dioxide content, an organic rosé wine is easier to digest for people sensitive to sulfites.

How do you obtain the color of an organic rosé wine?

The pink color of rosé

Many people wonder where the salmon color of a organic rosé wine comes from. Quite simply, it's the skin of the black grape which, when it comes into contact with the juice after being pressed or crushed, colors the wine.

So, the longer the maceration, the darker the color of the wine. This is also the process used for red wine, except that for the latter, the skins are left in contact for much longer than for rosé wines.

This step will make it possible to produce pale rosé organic wines, like the bottle Or & Azura wine bearing the AB and Bee Friendly labels, or very pale rosé wines, like the Clos du Templean exceptional cuvée from abiodynamic vineyard .

If the grapes are pressed immediately, the contact time between the skins and the juice is very short, resulting in an extremely pale rosé that can resemble a white wine, as is the case with the "La Villa 2019 Château la Sauvageonne", voted best rosé wine in the world two years running, in 2017 and 2018, by Drinks Business.
