There we produce wines of great finesse from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Le Viala 2020

Le Viala comes from a plot of Château Laville Bertrou, situated on an exceptional terroir within the highly regarded La Livinière appellation (officially recognised in 1998), synonymous with great Languedoc wines.

This extraordinary terroir, acquired by Gérard Bertrand in 1997, produces powerful, characterful wines that regularly collect awards. Benefiting from a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with a temperate winter variant, the Viala faces due south on the heights of the village of La Livinière at approximately 120 m altitude. The soil consists of a mosaic of stripped marls, combined with calcareous sandstone, as well as compact limestone dating from the Eocene (Tertiary era).

This type of terroir naturally limits the production of each vine, and allows, thanks to deep rooting, resistance to low rainfall and water stress. The slow ripening of the grapes is thus encouraged by the considerable sunshine. The three grape varieties blended for this cuvée express, in a complementary and nuanced way, this unique terroir that is the Viala.

L'Hospitalitas 2021

Overlooking the Mediterranean by about a hundred metres, the Château l'Hospitalet vineyard benefits from exceptional climatic conditions (semi-arid Mediterranean climate with a mild winter variant). The heat and sunshine, tempered by the altitudinal gradient, offer opportunities for slow ripening from September to October, favourable to aromatic expression and the finesse of the tannins. The Hospitalitas plot, located at the heart of the vineyard at the foot of a 30-metre cliff that shelters it from the north wind, benefits from a microclimate.

The exceptional character of this cuvée comes from the fact that the plot sits across the two terroirs that make up our vineyard: the Gargasian marly-limestone soils, rich in fossils, which provide the vines with a water supply throughout the summer despite the absence of summer rainfall; and the Mediterranean red soils of the Barremian, formed on compact bluish-grey limestone reclaimed from the garrigue, which allow the production of rich, concentrated wines. The blending of these two grape varieties gives this cuvée a beautiful aromatic expression, a tonicity and a remarkable ageing potential, with fruit and roundness.

https://www.gerard-bertrand.com/en/products/three-plots-box-aigle-royal-pinot-noir-le-viala-and-lhospitalitas
