As early as the 13th century, the Hospices de Narbonne settled on La Clape, which has been connected to the mainland by the alluvial deposits of the Aude since the end of the Middle Ages. Documents from 1561 attest to its mission of welcome and sharing for pilgrims. This vocation of hospitality inspired Gérard Bertrand, who made l'Hospitalet the beating heart of his endeavours around the Mediterranean art de vivre, since he acquired the property in 2002. The Château today boasts a 5-star hotel, a gastronomic restaurant, a tasting and sales cellar, an Art Space and a rich offering of sensory experiences centred on wine. Music was the missing element: in 2004, the château hosted the first \"Jazz à l'Hospitalet\" festival, which has since become an international reference. La Clape has retained from its Pyrenean héritage its limestone soils.
