Roussanne Marsanne Vermentino Carignan Syrah Mourvedre Grenache

Villemajou takes its name from “Villa Major”: the Roman villa which owes its reputation to the Latin poet Apollinaire. Acquired by Georges Bertrand in 1973, it is the family cradle, where Gérard learned the profession of winegrower with his father. The Boutenac cru is characterized by a hilly landscape and deep soils of rolling pebbles allowing the old vines of Carignan to resist the arid and windy climate of this terroir.

      Dress

      White: Gold, shiny, fairly deep yellow

      Red: Deep garnet


      Nose

      White: Very expressive and sublimely deep, aromas of dried apricot, toasted almond, very floral fragrance of hawthorn and broom

      Red: Notes of toast, liquorice and of cloves. Powerful and elegant aromas of jammy fruit, sweet spices and roasting


      Blocked

      White: Ample and unctuous, round, very velvety and brioche. Tight and very fresh finish

      Red: Round, the tannins are melted, it ends on a long and aromatic finish

      Custody and Service Tips

      White: To be enjoyed with pan-fried scallops, fish in sauce or as an aperitif

      Red: To be decanted and served at 16°C with a rack of lamb, game or aged cheeses

      Winemaking

      White: The grapes, harvested by hand, are pneumatically pressed with separation of the presses as soon as they arrive at the cellar. All of the juice undergoes alcoholic fermentation in new French oak barrels (temperature control helps preserve the freshness and integrity of the aromas). Aging in barrels lasts between 7 and 8 months until the spring equinox with regular stirring.

      Red: The remarkable quality of this cuvée lies in the exceptional quality of the old vines of Carignan and Shiraz. The harvest is manual and begins when the maturity of the berries is reached. Some of the Syrah and Carignan are vinified by maceration in whole bunches. Traditional maceration is carried out on the other grape varieties. The wines are blended after malolactic fermentation and then put into 225-litre Bordeaux barrels in our cellar for aging for 12 months. The wine is then kept for 12 months before being marketed.
