Saga of Grape Varieties: Pinot Gris

The pinot gris is a grey vine mutated from pinot noir. It is native of Burgundy and is present in Alsace. We find it also on the Languedoc plain, on the calcareous soils with sunny summers.

We recognize the Pinot gris with its small compact clusters, its round berries of a grey skin at maturity.

This vine gives wines of a great delicacy, but very powerful. Its characteristic aromas are the floral, spicy and honeyed notes.

The Pinot gris is a part of the grape planting of the Domaine de l’Estagnère, at the foot of the medieval fortress of Carcassonne. We find it in particular on the vintage Domaine de l’Estagnère Pinot gris, where it gives a wine with white flowers aromas and delicately toasted notes. A powerful wine, of a beautiful maturity, which reveals a mineral and persistent finish.
