Gérard Bertrand pursues his implementation of biodynamics and receives the highest accolades at Prowein 2018
Prowein, the world’s number one international trade fair for wine professionals, is a unique occasion to discover and taste the new wines from Gérard Bertrand. Record attendance in perspective for the most emblematic winemaker of the Languedoc Roussillon region in the South of France.
At the very moment that an OCDE international survey* has revealed that the French spend the most time eating and drinking each day (2 hours and 11 minutes compared to 1 hour and 10 minutes for the Dutch),
Gérard Bertrand, the South of France winemaker, and his team are celebrating French Art de Vivre and Naturality at Prowein in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Recognition for terroirs of exception.
The high point this year is the accolade “Master” at the Global Pinot Noir Masters 2018 awarded to L’Aigle Royal 2016, IGP Haute Vallée de l’Aude, noted 97/100, by the impressive judging panel of Masters of Wine, and Masters of the Drinks Business, composed of Patrick Schmitt, Alistair Cooper, Keith Isaac, Emma Symington, Jonathan Pedley, Patricia Stefanowicz and David Round.
The second remarkable distinction has been attributed to Château La Soujeole 2016, AOP Malepère, Cabernet Franc-Malbec-Merlot, elected Best Wine at Prowein 2018 in the category Languedoc-Roussillon and awarded a Gold Medal by the international jury of Mundus Vini (Meininger).
Also present at the fair are wines from the biodynamic estates including the iconic Clos d’Ora AOP Minervois-La-Livinière, the reference Domaine de Cigalus IGP Aude Hauterive, the Grands Vins including Château la Sauvageonne La Villa AOP Languedoc rosé (elected world’s best rosé in 2017 by The Drinks Business) as well as the emblematic Château l’Hospitalet AOP La Clape, produced and aged at the estate of the same name, where Gérard Bertrand has his headquarters. And presented in an exclusive European preview is Diving Into Hampton Water, the premium rosé conceived by Gérard Bertrand in collaboration with the icon of the American rock world, Jon Bon Jovi and his son Jesse. It will be on general release in the spring.
A vineyard in excellent health, a preserved environment, and magnificent wines all confirm the pertinence of Gérard Bertrand’s approach, with his early commitment to biodynamics. Today he is one of the greatest ambassadors for wine in the world, dispensing almost 150 masterclasses each year across the five continents.
“By revealing the intrinsic expression of the terroir and the talent of the winemaker, biodynamic wines form a link with the living world”,affirms Gérard Bertrand in his book “Le Vin à la Belle Etoile” published by La Martinière.
