Biodynamic culture is rhythmed by cosmic movement. Our geocentric perception of time, parted in days, months, seasons, and years, based on planetary, lunar, and solar cycles, determines the growth of plants and their environments. Biodynamics allow men to grow plants following these cycles, in order to maximize their yield without exhausting them, and most importantly respecting the earth and helping it regenerate.
One of its greatest influencers is the moon. Our natural satellite knows several phases which bear a direct effect on the fauna and flora development: here we will focus on the sidereal cycle, which sees the moon passing each month (the cycle is actually approximately 27.3 days) in front of the twelve zodiac constellations. Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are favorable to root, Scorpio, Cancer and Pisces to leaf, Libra, Gemini and Aquarius to flower and Aries, Leo and Sagittarius to fruit. By caring for the vine according to this rhythm, the winemaker lets it benefit from the elements each constellation offers and reach its perfect balance.
