The story of the AOP Corbières Boutenac

The oldest wine-making reference of the region is located in Boutenac in the locality called “Villa Mayor” become “Villemajou”. The Domaine de Villemajou is the real cradle of the designation Boutenac Premier Cru in Corbières recognized by the INAO (National Institute of Labels of origin).

Some dates:

From 1908, the wine growers of the Corbières created a labor union. In 1923, the area of production was delimitated, and in 1951, their wine obtained the label VDQS (wine of superior quality) rewarding for the first time the accomplished efforts.

In 1985, Corbières becomes a protected designation of origin. Since then, the labor union launched an ambitious program of development with in particular the implementation of the hierarchical organization of the production.

In 2005, birth of the AOC Corbières Boutenac, the only municipal naming in Corbières, who gathers now 28 producers on 10 municipalities around the massif of Pinada.

Today it is, in surface, the first AOC of Languedoc and the fourth of France.
